Is your home old, dated, and just completely exhausted? That is what this couple felt about their Naperville home. It needed some serious updating. Not only was it tired, but it didn’t reflect the taste and desires of the homeowner. The flow of the space didn’t exactly condone ease of the family’s entertaining lifestyle either. They embarked on the largest project of their lives in order to change the way they were living. The result was what they were looking for and better. It even won a 2014 Master Design Award!
The layout was transformed into a space that flows well with the family’s lifestyle and makes it easier to entertain in, while updating the upstairs and finishing off the basement.
The addition includes a wet bar and plenty of open space for entertaining guests. There are many windows to allow for a more airy feel. The space leads to the clients patio and pool area which make it a great extension for parties to serve food or gather and socialize.
In the kitchen, the fridge moved to the same wall as the oven/microwave combo. Now, the space where the fridge used to be can function as a buffet area, keeping guests out of the cook’s way. The new island features a seating area and is much larger, integrating the great room into the space.
We layered functional and ambient lighting to the space. As you can see from the before pictures, the lighting left something to be desired, but then again so did the kitchen.
Recessed can lighting was installed in the ceiling and in the wood soffit over the cooktop. We also added LED undercabinet lighting which can be used as task lighting or as an accent.
